  • Build Cohesion by mentoring, coaching and doing the hard tasks with the team.

  • Communicate progress, challenges, and needs to keep our team accountable.

  • Carry On, stay positive and learn when we have the inevitable setbacks, mistakes, and challenges. 

  • Celebrate the small victories along the way, and enjoy the process, because if we aren't having fun, neither will the people we serve!

  • Congratulate, recognize and show the utmost gratitude to those who were on the journey to achieving your shared passionate goal, and they will join you on the next journey.

My Commitment to the Gateway Area Council

As your Scout Executive, I will…

 

  • Develop a shared vision. I will integrate the council strategic plan to reach benchmarks annually to achieve council’s mission.

 

  • Demonstrate 100% commitment. I will work at all levels and with staff assignments that may be beneficial to team success.

 

  • Lead by example. As a leader, I will not ask my team to do a task I have not done in the past or would not do myself.

 

  • Exhibit strong organization skills. I will focus on timelines and planning to achieve goals.

 

  • Innovate. I will think outside the box to address priorities and overcome challenges.

 

  • Not settle for the status quo. I will consistently improve upon previous results.

 

  • Be visible in the community. I will actively network with high profile community leaders to advance the Council’s vision.

 

  • Teach the staff. I will ensure the Council staff receives instructional opportunities so they can be proficient at their mission to grow Scouting.

 

  • Remove barriers to success. I will work with the staff to identify challenges and deliver solutions.

 

  • Be service-oriented. I will always provide first-class customer service to the Scouts, leaders, board members, and collaborative partners.

 

  • Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and loyalty. I will display unwavering commitment to the values embodied by the Boys Scouts of America.

 

  • Bring a competitive spirit. I will foster a healthy competitive spirit with other councils between service areas to achieve greater results for the Council overall.

 

  • Encourage diversity. I will build partnerships with multicultural leaders and organizations ensuring all youth can benefit from Scouting’s mission.

 

  • Promote a high quality of life. I will ensure my team balances their personal and professional life in a way that is both healthy and productive
